Friday 20th October 2006


3.00pm Registrations Open
Make yourself known and pick up your official registration pack from our Information desk at the Sherwood Motor Inn (across the road from our Convention Venue - The Speirs Centre).

5.00pm Junior Workshops
For those early arrivers - sharpen your skills in a variety of master classes devoted to further developing your abilities in the allied arts of magic.

5.30pm Mix and Mingle with our International Guests
Join us the Sherwood Motor Inn (across the road from The Speirs Centre) for mixing and mingling with our International Guests.

6.30pm Dinner (out in town)
Have your dinner and be back by 8.30pm for the Convention Welcome Show. There are many nearby eateries all within walking distance.

8.30pm Convention Welcome Show
The Palmerston North Magic Circle hosts a Stage Show featuring a mix of local performers and our International Guests. This is an informal evening of entertainment and surprises. Also take this time to look around our fantastic venue for the weekend. The Palmerston North Speirs Centre is a brand new modern arts building, designed specifically for the teaching of drama and music.

10.00pm Supper (provided)
A light Supper is provided at the Sherwood Motor Inn (across the road from The Speirs Centre).

Saturday 21st October 2006

8.00am Registrations Open
Pick up your official registration pack at The Speirs Centre Information desk from 8.00am onwards.

9.30am Official Opening
The 28th New Zealand International Magicians’ Convention is officially opened onstage in The Speirs Centre Main Auditorium. Look out for special guest appearances.

9.45am Dealers Demo
The Dealers get their chance to introduce themselves and demonstrate the newest and hottest effects that will soon be destined for your magic closet.

10.00am Morning Tea (provided)
We take a quick morning-tea break before David Williamson’s Lecture at 10.30am. Take this time to check out the magic for sale in the Dealers Den.

10.30am David Williamson Lecture
Considered to be one of the world's most talented magicians, Magic Castle Lecturer of the Year, David Williamson presents the first Lecture of our Convention. David knows the secret of capturing the imagination of any audience. A born showman and an accomplished sleight of hand artist, David will dazzle us with his unique and delightful brand of entertainment, blending heart-stopping magic with sidesplitting hilarity.

12.30pm Lunch (provided)
We provide a delicious lunch before the Children’s Entertainer Competition at 1.30pm. You can use this time to check out the magic for sale in the Dealers Den.

1.30pm Children’s Entertainer Competition
Each Act in the Children’s Entertainer Competition has a maximum time of ten minutes, with the winner receiving the Bert South Trophy. An audience of live children has been purchased specifically for this competition.

3.30pm Afternoon Tea (provided)
We take a quick afternoon-tea break before the mystery event at 4.00pm. Take this time to check out the magic for sale in the Dealers Den.

4.00pm Mystery Event
Well, if we told you – it wouldn’t be a mystery, would it?

5.00pm Stand-Up For Children
Alan Watson introduces Duane Laflin and Alan Martell who present a Children’s Magic Symposium featuring their best tricks and tips for the toughest shows of all - kids shows. Duane and Alan will also be answering any questions you have on performing for Children.

6.30pm Dinner (out in town)
Have your dinner and be back by 8.00pm for the Stage Act Competition. There are many nearby eateries all within walking distance.

8.00pm Stage Act Competition
Take your seats in the main auditorium for the Stage Act Competition featuring both junior and senior categories. All Competitors have a maximum of twelve minutes with the B.A.M. Cup awarded to the senior winner.

10.00pm Supper (provided)
A light Supper is provided at the Sherwood Motor Inn (across the road from The Speirs Centre).

Sunday 22nd October 2006


9.00am Dealers Open
Take this time to check out the magic for sale in the Dealers Den.

9.30am Duane Laflin Lecture
What does this Lecture offer you? It will be a magical experience that inspires, instructs and entertains! Duane Laflin performs his routines just like he would for a regular show - then he explains the methods in a clear and easily understood manner.

10.30am Morning Tea (provided)
We take a quick morning-tea break before the Close Up Competition at 11.00am. The Dealers Den is open – so feel free to check out all the magic for sale.

11.00am Close Up Magic Competition
Take your seats for the Close Up Magic Competition featuring both junior and senior competitors. The Grundy Cup is awarded to the Best Close Up Act.
Technical rehearsals and preparation for the International Gala Show will be taking place in The Speirs Centre Main Auditorium.

1.00pm Lunch (provided)
We provide you with a delicious lunch. Take this time to check out the magic for sale in the Dealers Den and be back in time for the International Gala Show beginning at 3.00pm.

3.00pm International Gala Show
A spectacular line up of both top International and New Zealand Performers in our two-hour Gala performance. Make sure you have your ticket with you (it's included in your registration pack).

5.00pm MagicSports & Convention Photo
Fun Events, mini-competitions and the Official Convention Photograph.

6.30pm Pre-Banquet Drinks & Mingling
Join us for pre-banquet drinks and tricks before the Cabaret Show and Prize Giving begins at 8.00pm.

8.00pm Banquet, Prize giving and Cabaret Show
Enjoy a scrumptious all-you-can-eat buffet, comedy entertainment and our Convention prizewinners. We guarantee this will be a night to remember.

Monday 23rd October 2006


9.00am I.B.M. Meeting
A meeting for all Members of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and for those that have recovered from the Sunday night - this is your last chance to buy from all of our Convention Dealers. The Dealers Den will be open until 10.30am.

9.30am Sales Tables
Clean out that overflowing magic closet, and bring along all of your unused magic. Your junk may be another magi’s treasure. Remember to bring plenty of cash. Sales Tables will be open until 10.00am.

10.00am Lisa Menna Lecture
Our very special International Guest, Lisa Menna, presents her lecture in the Speirs Centre Main Auditorium. Lisa was the first female to be invited to lecture at F.I.S.M, and has performed for audiences, big and small, all over the world.

11.30am Panel Session with International Guests
This is your last chance to learn from our International Guests; David Williamson, Lisa Menna, Duane & Mary Lafflin and Alan Martell who will answer any questions you still have.

1.00pm Official Closing
We bring the 28th New Zealand International Magicians’ Convention to an official close.
