He'll also be visiting Spain, Portugal and Germany before returning home in the middle of October. The tour is mainly to promote his books, but looking forward to catching up with several magician friends while on the road. ----------------------- Remember if you have any magic news drop me a line: AW@Alan-Watson.com -------------------------------------------- 2. Gary Darwin Is Back In Hospital -------------------------------------------- Message from Don Drake (US) Gary Darwin is in the hospital in Las Vegas, with a very bad Diabetes Foot Neuropathy infection. They are going to amputate his toes on the right foot, and then possibly a small portion of the front of the foot. Gary will be in rehab for a while, and will have to wear a special shoe. Gary wanted me to tell everyone that he is optimistic about the future, and this time he plans to follow his doctor's orders and stay off the foot, even on Wednesday nights. (You have no idea how hard this is for Gary). If anyone wishes to call him you can contact him at 702-735-7179. If you wish to call him the best time is afternoon or evening Pacific Daylight Savings time. I'm sure he would be glad to hear from his friends, although he has plenty of them visiting him. Remember he is listed under his full name: Gary Darwin Meador (pronounced Med-Or). -------------------------------------------- 3. It's Magic! Meetings With Remarkable Magicians # 26 - Nick Lewin -------------------------------------------- Message from Nick Lewin (US) The Fabulous Freddie Kapps. Ken Brooke was not an easy man to impress. While other magicians would rave on about the magician of the moment while Brooke would just nod and say, "He's not bad." From Ken that was high praise indeed. The only magicians I ever heard him extravagantly praise were Dai Vernon, Ricky Jay, Danny Ray and above all the brilliant Dutch magician Fred Kapps. Ken was very proud of his friendship with Kapps. I arrived at "Ken Brooke's Magic Place" at about ten o'clock in the morning. It was a Saturday morning, which was my favorite day to spend time in Ken's studio. The moment I walked in I realized that something special was in the air. The first indication that this was the case was that Ken was tidying, cleaning and emptying ashtrays. "Hurry up Nicky, we need tea from across the street and then you can straighten the shelves!" I jumped into action and began the first of many tea runs that day. I quickly discovered what the excitement was. Fred Kapps was visiting London and would be visiting with Ken in the studio that day. I had often heard Ken talk about Fred and his unique blend of sleight of hand magic and comedy. Kapps could present his act in quite a number of European languages and get big laughs in all of them. Sure enough at eleven o'clock the great man arrived and I was dispatched for tea and a coffee for Fred. Normally Ken was quite suspicious of anyone who drank coffee rather than plain old fashioned tea; however he instantly forgave Freddie this Euro-eccentricity. I fetched the next tray of beverages and the day began. Every magician in London must have stopped by the studio that day to meet and greet Fred. By mid-day Ken and Fred had created an elaborate rouse to amuse those present. When the inevitable moment arrived and someone wanted to watch Fred perform a trick they would go into a two person routine where Fred said he was going to show his new unlinking routine and Ken would say, "No it's too good for these buggers Freddie, don't waste it on 'em it's worth big bucks on the market. Fred would then take two uneven metal bands that seemed to be linked and with a massive intensity 'unlink' them with a flourish. Ken would then explode into a chorus of "That's un-bloody-believable Freddie!" Actually the two pieces of metal banding had started life as part of a package and then rescued from the garbage sack by a playful Fred. Using these two simple items Ken and Freddie separated the sheep from the goats in the magic studio. Some magicians spotted at once that they were being spoofed while others couldn't believe that two such knowledgeable magicians could be wrong about a trick. This second group sometimes enquired when the trick would be for sale. Needless to say this just made the rest of the room laugh even louder! For the real inner circle Fred would perform his version of Harry Lorraine's moving pencil trick. But that's another story entirely! Please send Bricks and bouquets to nicklewin@earthlink.net -------------------------------------------- 6. Broken Wand - Russian Magician, Kio -------------------------------------------- Message from Bev Bergeron (US) It is strange that a few days ago I sent this about Igor Kio to the Circus Fans of America: To Circus Fans: John Goodall and Greg Parkinson both commented on the Quick Change Act in general and the recent "America's Got Talent" contestants, David and Dania. A comment was made about the Russian magician, Kio, and the possibility of his starting the quick-change act. The act goes back many years. As an act it could be traced to the vaudeville days (1880 - 1930) where there were several acts that would put on an entire play making quick changes in costumes. Before this in the Chinese theatre of old, it was common for the actor to make a quick change on the stage. As a teenager I saw the robes that Ren Clark, a well to do magic lover, in Ft. Worth, Texas used in his magic act. He would change in a flash. In the 1930 thru the 1960, a Chinese-Panamanian magician, Chang, did so many changes of costumes that when he was reviewed by the New York newspapers in his appearance in the early 1950s, the reviewer said he should be called "Change" not "Chang." The Russian magician, Kio, who toured the States in the middle 1960s, was junior. He was Igor Kio. His father, Emil, died in 1966. He appeared as the star of the Moscow State Circus. For those that were around at the time, you may recall that the Burch Organization, I believe that was the name of the organization, picketed the arenas that the show appeared in. There were even some bomb threats. I was around when Jim Conley of El Segundo, California filmed the Kio show about 15 different performances with a Super 8mm camera. When Igor saw parts of the unedited film he delayed the show in San Diego so that Jim could get takes of his acts that were missed. Today the completed film is far superior to what one of the networks put on the air. I believe that film is in the hands of Tom Conley today. It would be well worth it for Circus Fans to view this film. Though the top acts of the Moscow Circus were on the tour, and the press shouted praise for the bear act and the acrobats, Kio was the star and dominated the entire circus with his illusions. One of the illusions almost burned audience members when the girl went up in flames. We could never get away with this fire stunt today. Then this appeared today: Obituary: Igor Kio / Magician, wed Brezhnev's daughter Died Aug. 23, 2006 Monday, September 04, 2006 The Associated Press Igor Kio, a popular magician who was briefly married to the daughter of Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev, died Wednesday at the age of 62, a Russian Circus Association official said. Mr. Kio died in Moscow after being hospitalized for two weeks, association deputy chairman Igor Filatov said. He did not know the cause of death. Mr. Kio, who often performed more shows annually than there are days in a year, was designated a People's Artist of the Russian Federation Russia and had won honorary titles or awards in countries including Georgia and Belgium, Russian news agencies and Web sites said. Born into a circus family, Mr. Kio first appeared in an arena at age 5 and began performing seriously when he was 15, mixing show business with a passion for soccer, the reports said. The same year, he left his Moscow school and studied in several places around the Soviet Union, eventually graduating in Georgia. The son of noted magician Emil Kio, he included many of his father's tricks in his repertoire. But he mostly shunned well-known tricks for his own, according to the reports. He also appeared on television and hosted an annual New Year's program in the 1980s. Mr. Kio's first wife was Mr. Brezhnev's only daughter, Galina, but their marriage lasted only nine days. His second marriage lasted 11 years. He left the state circus company in 1989 -- two years before the collapse of the Soviet Union. Research In Dallas And Come To Your Own Conclusion... -------------------------------------------- Message from Maria Ibáñez Society of American Magicians National President Elect Greetings: So you are deciding whether or not to come to historic Dallas for the S.A.M. Convention -- did you know that there are still many, many more sites to visit and things to do than what I've already told you about in the past two e-mails? While in Dallas, you can take a Limo ride and follow the route that John F. Kennedy took on that fateful day decades ago. There are speakers in the car that will take you sight and sound on the same route and trip he took, down to a stop where the bullets hit him. Re-live a piece of history while there. You can also consider visiting the following sites: Texas School Book Depository, Dallas The building in which Lee Harvey Oswald hid and fired at President John F. Kennedy. Attraction type: Historic site; Landmark/point of interest John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza, Dallas This simple monument to the slain president was built on a plaza adjacent to the Texas School Book Depository building. Attraction type: Monument Dealey Plaza National Historic Landmark District, Dallas The site includes the former Texas School Book Depository and Dealey Plaza, two of the sights forever associated with the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Attraction type: Historic site; Monument Once you've visited these, you and your family can draw your own conclusions on the following "coincidences". Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both of their wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both were shot in the head. Both were shot with one bullet. Both were rumored to be killed in a conspiracy. Neither was confirmed to be a conspiracy. Lincoln was shot in the Ford Theater. Kennedy was shot in a Ford Motor Company (Lincoln) Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners. Both successors were named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. Their first names both contain six letters. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names comprise fifteen letters. Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse. Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater. Both assassins were assassinated before their trials. The only complete filming of Kennedy's assasination was shot by Abraham Zapruder. The only complete account of Lincoln's assasination was written by John Zelfindorfer. A week before Lincoln was shot, he was with friends in Monroe, Maryland. A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with his friend Marilyn Monroe. Lincoln's last child, Tad, had his funeral held on July 16, 1871. Later he was exhumed and moved to a different grave site. Kennedy's son JFK Jr. was lost at sea on July 16, 1999. Later he was found, brought up, and then re-buried at sea. -------------------------------------------- 8. Steps To Your Success: Successful Minded Thinking - 1 -------------------------------------------- Message from Kyle Peron (US) E-Mail: Magic4u02@aol.com When I decided many years ago to really take my magic seriously and to really find the success I wanted for my wife and I, I was puzzled about many things. I wanted success, I dreamed about it and I even told myself what I would do if I ever became successful. I had all these great ideas and plans but I never did anything with it.  I also thought that to be successful I had to be the most technically savvy magician and the BEST magician in my area. I felt I had to be perfect in order to find the success I wanted for myself. I realized that this was not entirely true at all.  Now I know I am not the best magician out there nor do I feel I am the most technically skillful. But, I do know that to be successful I needed to provide for my client something a lot of other entertainers can't or were not willing to deliver upon. Let me explain a bit more if I could. The service and product you give to your client must be up to their standards. You simply must be able to deliver on your promise and solve the needs of your client that books you. This is what I refer to as being a "solutions provider". It is their standards you are going for and you must have them feeling that they have received great value from what you provided to them. If your client feels that you did not deliver on the services you promised to them, or if they feel you did not add value to their event, then no amount of marketing is going to help you in the long term. The key to success is taking direct action upon yourself to go out there and MAKE that success happen. Without the direct mind frame of taking action, then nothing else will come of it. You have to realize that to be successful with your magic, you need to get up off your butt and stop sitting there hoping the phone will ring. Success is also learning from failure. You might say that failure is only a stepping stone to success if one stops and learns from each failure one does. In other words do not look at failure as failure. Taking direct action to find your own success will certainly have you on a course where you will at times experience failure. The successful minded person is the one who will not give up so easily. A successful person is one who remembers that failure is only failure if you fail to learn from the experience. If you do learn even one thing from failing, then failure is really indeed a stepping stone to success. I might also mention that there is also a reason why they call it "show business". You can have the good magic product, but unless people know who you are and how to contact you, then having this product does not add up to a hill of beans. Yes, you must first have and provide a quality magical experience that your clients feel has value. That is a given. However, having that great service will not do you any good unless you take direct action to make people know who you are and the value you can give them. This is done through effective and target style marketing concepts. A successful minded entertainer will be one who strives at creating a great show experience and being able to sell this to a prospect by showing them directly how their show can benefit the prospect. They also find success in not just being a product the prospect buys. I always strive never to be just a product. Products are meant to be used and abused and forgotten about. I want that prospect to become a client and then I want them to become a recurring client who will come back to me time and time again? So how do I change this perception of them seeing me as just a product? I go and make myself known to them not just as a magician, but as a total solutions provider. I simply strive to find solutions to any of my clients needs. By listening to them, I lock in on what needs they have and structure my show and offerings to meet these needs. As soon as I meet needs and solve needs for my client, my perceived value in their own eyes increases ten fold. Now I am no longer magician XY or Z. Now I am remembered as The Magical Illusions of Kyle and Kelly and they will come back to me time and again because I can offer them something others can not offer. I have added value to them. Another thing that success-minded people strive for is NEVER forgetting about the past client. Too many magicians do a show and leave and move on. That can be one of the single worst mistake one can make. Instead BUILD relationships with these folks. After all who knows more about what you do and how you do it and how you met a need, more than a person who has experienced what you have to offer. They are walking billboards and advertisement for you. Do not forget about them. You must nurture the relationship with them through out the year. By doing so, you can often not only get repeat bookings from them, but often times you get referrals from the person giving your name out to others they find might benefit from what you have to offer. Keep your name fresh in their minds at all times. Another point I will make here is that if you do any passive forms of advertising, and this is fine, you should always strive to track your results every single time. Too many people place an ad or place a flyer and then just sit and wait? Track where your gigs are coming from. How else will you learn what forms of marketing are working the best for you unless you track where they are coming from. If you do a passive form of marketing, track how many went out or how many calls you received and out of those, how many bookings did you receive. This information can be so valuable to any performer and just requires a bit of time to get used to doing it. No one said success would be easy. Successful minded thinking takes time to develop just as the skills do to be successful. But if you stick with it, you will find an amazing thing happening to you. You will find that successful-minded thinking and processes become a habit. Once they are a habit, then you just do them without even thinking about it. Strive to be successful as much as you want to be. Go out there and take action to make it happen. You can do anything you set your mind out to do. Do not let dreams just be dreams. Make those dreams reality. Thank You Sue Anne Webster -------------------------------------------- Message from Bill & Marlene Seagraves (NZ) I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue Anne Webster for her report on the FISM competitions, a very difficult job expertly done. What a pleasant surprise on Sunday morning to see The Watson Family in action on TV. My granddaughter was watching the programme and called me to watch it as there was a magician coming on. I managed to see most of the show and was very impressed. It's the first time in my 6 years in NZ that I have seen magic on TV. There was a good mixture of magic with a youthful Nick Britt producing and vanishing doves for the studio audience and the Watson Family performing on location at Wellington Airport. My congratulations for your granddaughter Aleshia for her polished performance. To produce a rabbit and then have her Grandfather suspend her on swords at the age of 7 on TV must be a wonderful memory for one so young. British Ring Convention Latest News -------------------------------------------- Message from Bob Hayden PRO to the British Ring Breaking News. Two more names have been added to the already impressive list of talent that will be appearing at this years Convention. They are Pilou (France) and our own Colin Rose. At the recent FISM 2006 held in Stockholm in the stage competition the Grand Prix winner from 101 contestants was Pilou. As soon as the result was announced our Talent Co-ordinator Paul Stone immediately booked him to appear at Eastbourne. The relatively unknown Pilou impressed not only the judges, but also the packed auditorium of magicians from throughout the world. In her FISM 2006 Competition report for Magic New Zealand Sue-Anne Webster of Australia wrote: A 'youth' in a beret and street clothes reminiscent of Oliver Twist did what can only be described as a celebratory dance of magic. Pilou was so easy, so natural, so exciting and so happy as he displayed his incredible talents in dexterity and performance. An excellent act!!! You can only agree whether or not Sue-Anne's opinion is correct is by being in Eastbourne where Pilou performs his award winning act. Colin Rose needs very little introduction. Thirty-five years ago when working at Davenports magic Shop in London he fell under the guidance of Patrick Page and together they developed an act that in1967 was to win Colin the title of The Magic Circle Young Magician of the Year. Subsequently this led to the creation of 'Fantasy in Flame', one of the most commercial Fire Manipulation Acts ever. Colin learnt his craft in the many Clubs and Theatres around England and soon attracted the attention of Continental Agents who booked him into famous Casinos and Night Clubs throughout Europe where he was billed as 'The Young Sorcerer of Fire Magic' and culminating in an offer to tour with Richiardi Jrn. in 'The World Festival of Magic and Witchcraft.' Colin's Fire and Card Manipulation act has taken him around the world on Tour and Television. Amazing Card Productions beautifully routined with dramatic Fire Productions throughout, carefully choreographed and set to exciting classical music that create passion and pathos to produce a unique Theatrical Exemplary Magic Act. Close-up Enthusiasts carefully note! 'This is the most talented group of close-up workers that has ever been assembled for the International Close-up Show at a British Ring Convention' These are the words of Mike Gancia who for many years has overseen the International Close-up and in doing so has brought to the Convention a whole series of memorable shows. Mike's knowledge and appreciation of close-up in its widest presentation is irrefutable as is his passion for presenting the art only if it is of the highest order. To give you an insight into the treat that is in store for you at Eastbourne he has written, for your information, the following profile of each of this year's performers. John Carney (USA) Here is a person that claims to be a student of magic, and analytically thinks about everything he undertakes with no detail left unaddressed. He is literally a classic performer. His acting is so strong that his sleight of hand is invisible. His expertise with cards, coins, silks and his comedy is elegant and entertaining. As a teacher of magic he is second to none. Vanni Bossi (Italy) Well known in the magic world for inventions and creative thinking. His impromptu pencil through bill tends to leave one speechless. Effects with cards include, Card Inside a Glass, Card in a Frame and a card levitation from a deck are among many of his creations. Tim Conover (USA) Not only a brilliant magician but also a corporate magician particularly with trade shows a mind reader, psychic entertainer and a keynote speaker. I first saw him at Magic Live two years ago where he was set up as a trade show magician selling Magic magazine. Among the items he used were Ramsay's Coins and Cylinder and a terrific version of coins in the glass. Seth Kramer (USA) A true corporate trade show magician who links his magic with the company's product. He learns the industry jargon, and focuses on the true points of their products where he makes cards appear in unusual locations and coins become larger. Mark Mason (UK) One of the best British close-up performers on the scene to day. His close-up magic is clean and lively and he is one of the finest exponents of the Classic Force. The finish of his act with the chosen card ending up in a sealed deck is sensational. He is an inventor of several effects, which he markets as a very successful British dealer. He is a great favourite as a lecturer in the States. Charlie Frye (USA) well known as a terrific juggler and comedy stage magician who won many hearts at the recent I.B.M. convention in Miami. Stan Allen, editor of Magic Magazine advises that with close-up from Charlie Frye we should be prepared to see something eccentric and offbeat, just like his stage act. Finally here is some news about the Stars of the Future Show being arranged by Cynthia Neptune to be staged on Sunday morning. To attend the convention, coinciding as it does with the start of the school autumn term poses difficulties for our young magicians to obtain the necessary dispensation from their school. Those confirmed so far are Joe Harper from Driffield, Jack Gleadow from Hull and Jamie Tetlow from Rickmansworth. Negotiations with others are being vigorously perused and when confirmed will be reported here. Both Joe and Jack started their magical career with the Junior Section of the Hull Circle of Magicians (H.C.M) under the guidance of Arthur Setterington, Rex Strott and Jon Marshall. Both are making noteworthy progress towards becoming the magicians of tomorrow. Joe scooped first prize in the northern Magic Circle's Junior Stage Competition at this years Easter Parade at the same time taking the Tommy Aldus Comedy Cup. In performance he oozes confidence, is funny and has that essential gift of being able to engage with his audience. Jack Gleadow is only 11 but already has made a name for himself within the H.C.M. Last November he won the Arthur Setteringham Cup for Close-up Magic and in February of this year the Spooner Trophy in the junior Stage Competition. Jack has that cheeky personality that endears him to everybody. His magical idol is Vik Pandolfr of Vik and Fabrini fame. Vik also happens to be a member of the H.C.M. Before magic came into his life Jamie Tetlow was very shy. This all changed once he became absorbed with practicing and performing his magic. It increased even more so after meeting Mandy Davis who enlisted the help of Graham Mitchell to act as Jamie's mentor and advising him to become a member of the Young Magicians Club (Y.M.C) of The Magic Circle. He worked hard at perfecting his magic and was rewarded last November by being made Member of the Year of the Y.M.C. the event being recorded by Radio 4.  In another field Elizabeth Maskell, daughter of Alan Maskell, has become absorbed in film animation and has produced a short magical animated film, which will be shown during the show. It will be interesting to see what Elizabeth has produced at the youthful age of 16. It is hoped that Conventioneers will give their support and encouragement to the youngsters by being at the Congress Theatre. Regarding FISM Endorsements -------------------------------------------- Message from Brian Role' Past president IBM Ring 202 Malta Reference to subject No 3 regarding FISM endorsements in last weeks e-zine. As FISM is a competition, I would not like anyone to see my act before I compete with it, and my guess is that many other magicians would think the same to avoid copying and further violations. However a video of past performances would be acceptable and should be a good reference to the performance style and techniques to judge whether or not one is up to a certain standard to compete. Also certain styles may not be the conventional magician's taste but may surprisingly surpass and out do other performances. A thought and maybe a suggestion in the case of IBM should be that each Ring should nominate performers according to the size of the Ring, i.e. maybe IBM could endorse the best 1 of 10 magicians nominated from each Ring. This is just a suggestion. The Amazing Orchante Saga ----------------- Message from Tommy Orchard (The Amazing Orchante)(UK ex-pat Kiwi) Page 119 Trevor King - Q S M the legend continues Back in the 1950 days, Trevor was involved with several hypnotists - there was one in particular, who went by the stage name of HENRI ROLAND. His real name was Jack Doyle - an ex Auckland water - side worker. He became not only Trevor's mate, but also - ONE OF HIS GREATEST 'STARS'. Every week in those early days, Trevor would go to the library in Christchurch, scrutinizing the entertainment section of both New Zealand and Australian newspapers, looking at the various artists and shows - taking note of the style of publicity/advertising. Trevor saw Jack Doyle's publicity in the 'Rotorua Post' - his advertising was shocking but he had got an excellent write - up. Trevor decided to write to him about a South Island tour. Jack was most interested so Trevor arranged to meet him at the Regent Hotel, Wellington. According to Trevor (from here on in, I'll call Jack by his Stage name, 'Henri'), 'Henri', although a very good hypnotist (around Auckland) - never had the money to buy him a jug of beer, nor had he ever owned an overcoat so Trevor loaned him, what was in those days £10, to get a coat - due to the bad weather. £10 in the Fifties would have bought you a very nice coat indeed! Trevor left Amalgamated Theatres to take 'Henri Roland' on tour. They planned a South Island tour - Trevor had a 1936 or 1942, not sure which - Ford Coupe, and started the 'ADVANCE' for the entire South Island by driving down to Invercargill, with a hundred pounds in his pocket - and got great help from 'THE MASTER' (The late) FRANK STAPP (who became their Southland agent). They carried a small PA system and a square of carpet to dress the stage. Not only did Trevor 'play' the part of Host/Assistant on stage with HENRI - he was also the Manager and Publicity man! It was a big challenge to BOTH Henri and Trevor to do that tour, "We spent every penny that we had in our pockets" Trevor says, and that YES, his (Trevor's) publicity WAS good - also had (3) 24 - sheeter hoardings on hire ex railways dept. - Radio/Newspapers, 'WINDOW SLEEP' in a Dept. Store - IT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS! They played 4 nights at Invercargill and 6 nights at Dunedin. All shows in both Cities were COMPLETELY SOLD OUT! Timaru, Oamaru, Queenstown - PACKED OUT! Everywhere, The 'HOUSE FULL' sign went up! Trevor had originally planned to tour the South Island with Henri for three-months but so successful were the shows, Trevor stayed with HENRI and toured his hypnotism show for 12 months! The box office takings were around £10,000 (pounds, not dollars), only charging 6 /- (shillings) admission - a huge sum of money in the Fifties - Trevor and Jack had a 50/50 share in the gross takings. As Trevor said to me, "Remember Tommy, in those days there was no television, no traffic, Hotels in New Zealand closed at 6pm, nobody could get into movies, cinemas sold-out - we had it all on the - 'WELCOME MAT'. I bought my Family Home from my share of the profits!" One evening during the tour, Trevor received a phone-call from Jack Shannon (they were very good mates), who was at the Opera House in New Plymouth with 'FRANQUIN' (who was, without a doubt: THE WORLD'S GREATEST, MOST SUCCESSFUL HYPNOTIST, OF ALL TIME!). Jack Shannon was the best publicity man Show business has ever seen - he taught the American Advertising 'BIG BOYS' a thing or two, when THE 'FABULOUS FRANQUIN' SHOW, Stormed into the USA! They learnt more 'tricks' and publicity stunts from Jack in one day - than in a lifetime of Adverts! NOBODY but nobody, IN THE WORLD, was better than JACK SHANNON - WHEN IT CAME TO PUBLICITY! He could sell ice to Eskimos to build igloos! Jack said to Trevor, " I know that you are with 'Doyle' (HENRI) and things are going very well for you - there IS room in New Zealand for two hypnotists - I'm not too happy with the wages I'm getting - do you want me to join you as YOUR publicity man"? Trevor was thrilled to get his offer. "Tommy, I worked my bloody arse off" Trevor said, "I could not find an Advance Manager or Tour Manager to travel with Henri. I had to do the entire job - Advance etc. and return to be with Henri to assist on stage! So that night, in my hotel room in Queenstown, I sat down to confer with Henri about Jack Shannon's offer but Henri said NO! He hated the idea of having to pay 'Shannon' £350 a week, plus expenses, plus Hotel account so I had to cancel Jack Shannon's offer - and carry on doing TWO jobs, THREE - if you count Assisting on  Stage!" Continues Next Week -------------------------------------------- 21.
