2. David Copperfield Engaged To French Model Chloe Gosselin
--------------------------------------------
Article forwarded by Peter Phillips (US)
Los
Angeles Times
By
Christie D'Zurilla
David
Copperfield has conjured up a fiancée!
He
and French model-designer Chloe Gosselin have been engaged
for a while now, the illusionist revealed in a recent magazine
interview.
"I'm
engaged and in a committed relationship with Chloe in my
mind and my heart," Copperfield told Hello!, after
being nudged about his reputation for dating the world's
most beautiful women back in the 1990s.
That
era, which included six years with Claudia Schiffer, was
"a long time ago," he said.
Gosselin,
28, who met Copperfield, 57, six years ago, is the mother
of their 3-year-old daughter, Sky.
The
magician is the most successful solo performer of all time,
the mag said, having grossed more than $4 billion. And yes,
he does have his own island. Eleven of them, as a matter
of fact, in a Caribbean archipelago known as Copperfield
Bay, which is where the couple live.
And
it sounds like a pretty swell joint.
"Because
of my work I have the privilege of living in extraordinary
places around the world," he said, "and I wanted
to re-create the details of those experiences here - from
the water pressure in the shower to the thread count in
the towels."
Must be magical.

that have not yet registered for the event. The registration
fee is $495. Don't hesitate - REGISTER TODAY!
The
2014 Convention will be held in St. Louis, Missouri from
July 1 through July 5. The host hotel is the Renaissance
St. Louis Grand Hotel located at 800 Washington Avenue.
Room rates are $115/night single or double plus applicable
taxes. This rate is applicable three days prior and post-convention
(based on availability) if you plan to stay and make it
a vacation. You can reserve your room by going to: https://resweb.passkey.com/Resweb.do?mode=welcome_ei_new&eventID=10723061
going to the convention website at www.ibmsam.com, or by

you are with the I.B.M./S.A.M. Combined Convention to get
the convention rate.
Thinking about competing at the convention? You can enter
one, two or all three contests! The I.B.M. and S.A.M. will
be holding their annual stage and close-up contests with
cash awards totaling over $30,000. If you are a member of
both organizations, your act will be considered for the
awards being given by both organizations. In addition, the
Combined Convention will be the host for the North American
FISM Championships. Entry slots available to North America
for the 2015 FISM World Championships of Magic in Rimini,
Italy will be awarded to the TOP North American residents

North American magician to compete at the 2015 FISM. For
more information on all three contests and to register for

Following on the successful presentation of the Lance Burton

the Lance Burton Young Magicians Seminar on June 29-30.
This event is being sponsored by the I.B.M. and S.Y.M. and
is open to all young magicians between the ages of 7-19.
We are planning two different tracts - one for magicians
7-12 and the other for the 13-19 year olds. This is the
MUST ATTEND event for young magicians!
Along with the outstanding competitions taking place in
St. Louis, there will be lectures and evening shows presented
by top magicians from around the world. Enjoy performances
and lectures by our team of Family Entertainers, The Fat

events include top artists such as Danny Orleans, Dani D'Ortiz,
Miguel Angel Gea, Christian Engblom, Timo Marc, Gaston,

Mortimer to name a few. (Note: Acts are subject to change
without notice.)

5. This Year In Magic - The Podcast
--------------------------------------------
Message by Scott Wells (US)
To
close out the year of 2013, we "put the band back together."
Dodd Vickers, Cameron Ramsay and David "Silly Billy"
Kaye join me from our podcast days on the Magic Newswire.
Unfortunately, Chase Goforth (our "fifth Beatle"),
was unable to join us because of the flu.
Find
out what everyone has been doing during this past year as
we give a run down on the world of magic in 2013 from our
perspectives. We talk about magic in the movies, magic conventions,
Las Vegas shows, live magic shows, and magic on television.
On the blog is a list of many well-known (and some lesser
known) magicians and wives who have passed on during this
past year.

"after Christmas" special podcast is available

Happy
New Year!

6. Remarkable Magic #333 - Nick Lewin

Message by Nick Lewin (US)
Magical
Gems in 'The Junkyard!'
Happy
New Year to all off our Magic New Zealand readers!
It
has been a busy holiday season for Susan and myself, as
we moved from Las Vegas to Austin, Texas and settled into
our new home there. I am really looking forward to meeting
up with all the Texan magicians and becoming part of the
thriving magic community that exists in this part of the
world.
If
you live out here in the Lone Star State then drop an email
in my direction to say 'Howdy,' at nicklewin1@mac.com
My first exposure to Texas magic was when I performed and
lectured at the TAOM Convention a couple of years ago, and
I was knocked out at what a friendly bunch they are and
I can't wait to get to know y'all better.
Now
that the move is completed, I am looking forward to spending
some quality time with the three booklets that Susan ordered
as my 'magic present' this Christmas. They look like gems
from the masterful mind of the great Wayne Dobson. I am
eagerly awaiting his new career-spanning book that is scheduled
for release later this year, as Wayne is truly one of magic's
greatest treasures.
Having
shuffled between Nevada and California twice in the last
year, I guess it only makes 'crazy logical' sense that my
first public show since relocating to Texas, is going to
be in Los Angeles! I have only performed for three nights
at the Magic Castle in the last 28 years and this will be
the first time in 25 years that I will be presenting my
full show in California at a public venue.
I
am both pleased and proud to be flying out to LA to perform
the opening night of 'Junkyard Magic,' on 5th February;
this is a brand new venture by my dear friend and colleague
Steve Mitchell. This is a new monthly magic/dinner show
at 'The Junkyard Café' in Simi Valley and it looks
like shaping up to become a fabulous addition to the Southern
California magic scene. It's a great opportunity to catch
top professionals perform the 'long form' versions of their
shows rather than the 'Reader's Digest' versions featured
at the Castle.
The
show will be hosted by the great Pop Haydn who is dropping
into our current time zone to present some of his incredible
feats of magic and amusement. Haydn has been named performing
'Magician of the Year' at the Magic Castle an amazing six
times, Always a delight to watch, Pop and I have been friends
for many years but this will mark the first time we have
had the opportunity to perform together. Watch out 'Junkyard
'
I
will be performing my award winning 'Nick Lewin's Comedy
Magic' show that was featured for 5 years in Las Vegas at
the Maxim Hotel, plus a few new effects that will surprise
even those who caught my Sin City show. I will look forward
to meeting up with old and new friends at the event, so
if you live in the Los Angeles area, I extend a heartfelt
welcome for you to come along and be a part of this inaugural
performance.
A
special dinner kicks off the evening at 7.00pm followed
by the show at 8.00pm. The cost of the dinner and show is
just $30-or as I like to think of it, 'a couple of shots
of Patron at the Castle!' If you get together a group there
are even discounts available. A reservation is required
for the event and can be made by calling 805.520.5865. You
can get full details of this, and upcoming bookings, at
www.junkyardmagic.weebly.com
We
are going to be having a blast on the 5th February at that
debut night of 'Junkyard Magic,' and I sincerely hope that
you join us to be part of the fun, be there or be square!

This will be probably the shortest article I have ever written
and shared. For some of you, that might make you smile a
lot. Enjoy as I hope even in these short few sentences,
it gets you thinking.
Question:
You are at a Birthday party show and the client wants to
take photos or video the show. Do you let them and how do
you handle it?
Answer:
I am very confident in the show that Kelly and I put on.
We spend many hours each week working on it and working
out exactly who we are on stage and off. I know that no
one else can be like Kelly and I or how we present our show.
If a birthday party client is paying me to provide memories,
then I feel it is only right that those memories be allowed
to be captured.
Those memories are going to be shared with family and friends.
If you are confident in what you do, that is free marketing
and advertising for you. It gets folks talking and that
can often leads to more interest which leads to more inquiries
which leads to more paid gigs. A Win-win situation.

It
is with sadness and regret that we inform you long time

Message by Paul Lelekis (US)
I
have a new e-book out at Lybrary.com (just came onto the
site today!) called The Business of Table-Hopping.
This
e-book covers just about every topic involving table-hoping
that would help either a currently working professional
or someone who wishes to enter this very lucrative career!
Here
is the link for Lybrary.com to get to this, and my other

13. Broken Wand Karl Norman
--------------------------------------------
Message by Tony Weiland
It
is with a very heavy heart that I must tell everyone of
the passing of Karl Norman. He passed away on Christmas
after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his
wife Norine and many many friends who all loved him dearly.
His contributions to the world of magic are many, from helping
Gene Gordon build his magic shop and manufacturing many
of the tricks he sold.
To
all the years of working behind the bar at the legendary
Forks Hotel with Eddie Fechter. He always had time to share
a story, joke, or trick with people and usually left them
laughing. He lectured throughout most of the continental
United States and also in Canada and twice in Europe.
For
years he has been considered the "Dean of Western New
York Magic" and his influence will be felt for many
generations to come. Karl would not want people to be sad
but to celebrate the times we had together. Although today
I feel the world is just a little bit less magical.

14. John Ferguson Magic Equipment For Sale
--------------------------------------------
Message by John Ferguson (New Zealand)
Alan
I have discussed this with you before ( a few years back)
- but never wanted to sell anything - however I am moving
to a smaller house and realise it is time to say goodbye
to my Stage illusions ( which I haven't used for 20 years
!!).
Can you assist me or point me in the right direction to
sell the following items:
Substitution Trunk (Excellent condition built in 1970 by
Percy Bishop, Magician Napier)
Don
Rose Dolls House (Excellent condition built by Jack Hannah,
Cabinet Maker, Napier in 1968)
Super
X levitation (complete except for actual board (table) which
has been missing in transit).
Zig
Zag Illusion New bought in London in 1990 used probably
no more than 20 times. Excellent condition.
If you could give me some idea what these items would be
worth that would also be of assistance.
I
have also many magazines, books, etc dating back to early
1900's many of which came originally from the closure of
the 1945 Hawkes Bay Magicians Club, which was all passed
on to me in the 1960's.
I have also just about every 'trick" imaginable which
I will also sell, but too large a collection to list here
!!
Perhaps
I should have an "auction weekend" here in Napier
with everything on display ?
Any
suggestions or ideas would be great. I have always said
I would not sell any of my precious Magical Equipment, even
though I haven't been active for some 20 years now - but
reality tells me I should. None of the Family have any interest
in taking the lot - so here go's.
